Byterapers 40y party by Grue of Beyond Force, Kasettilamerit and Extend
It was clear that I was going from the first moment I heard about the party from the mighty Mikkron of Byterapers Incorporated. Having been to the parties earlier, I knew this was going to be something spectacular and other adjectives like that. The only problem was the date: I knew it might conflict with some work issues, and we had been told that no vacations were allowed on that weekend. Of course, I found out later that it was the same weekend, but I managed to get away with it by planning the “not going” announcement at work very carefully 😉 (editor note, you told your boss you /quit if u can’t go?)
Anyway, I decided to go early to the party as I had plans to release my game modification for Impossible Mission 2 there, just a personal deadline to keep my mind busy. Even though I really tried to get the code finished before the parties, I failed, so I had to do some party coding and testing, which kept me too busy instead of socialising more with the people.
It was great to see many familiar happy faces that I hadn’t seen for 20 years or so, and you know it’s great when you can continue your talking from where you left it 20 years ago. For some reason other people looked older, while I haven’t aged myself at all 😉
The party place was a maze by the lake, including 5 saunas. I only managed to use the wood heated one. On Friday morning Wode greeted me with a smiling face (editor: and again another horrible hawaiian shirt), and he proceeded to warm up the sauna. I was still busy with my code, so I followed him about an hour later. The sauna wasn’t warm yet, but I decided to go in some Swedish Finnish fusion sauna, and stepped naked into the coldish sauna while it started to warm up slowly. We had a good time laughing at the idea, but it’s not that bad to sit there and chill while it’s getting warmer and warmer and letting some steam out of the kiuas from time to time.
Did I say already that the party place was a maze? It took some time to find my way back to my room after the sauna, but as I now was refreshed, I continued on with my debugging sessions. As the day went by, more and more people arrived at the parties and started to become more and more intoxicated. I don’t use alcohol these days, so I decided to go to bed early. I repeated my Swedish Finnish sauna ritual on Saturday morning and finally got everything working as planned with Impossible Mission 2, so I was able to release it into the wilderness. I met a lot of people and chatted my mind away, a very enjoyable experience. I’m sorry, but I cannot remember your names, so I won’t even try to mention them here.
Short report, but the party was awesome. Micron sure knows how to organize a party, tech worked ok, and there weren’t much delays for the compos etc. I cannot wait for the next bigger meetup of the scene legends like the Byterapers! <3 Grue.
